Blackpool Conference

 

 

In February this  year we went to the  annual conference held in Blackpool. Along with staff, 4 service users attended from Canal Street along with 2 from Canal Street Hub and also 2 from Neston.

In order to make our attendance possible Canal Street worked very hard, by holding a variety of fundraising events throughout 2014. We had to find a total of £2300, so as you can imagine credit is due to everybody for such a fantastic effort.

Here is a breakdown of how we raised our funds.

We raised a grand total of £2954.67, of which £500 was spent on food and prizes. This left us with an amazing £2454.67.

We   are all very proud of everything we have achieved in 2014. We could not have done it, without the generosity and kind help from service users, families and carers, to whom we owe a massive debt of appreciation.

A special mention to Mrs Blinston, who not only donated many raffle prizes but also held garage sales and collected prizes and vouchers for our bingo and raffle events.

Also Margaret Hutcheson who has supported us very generously at each and every event.

A massive thank you to Dawn Marks, the bodyshop rep, who donated her commission to our cause, also her daughter and friend for carrying out a nail and makeup demonstration, free of charge.

Penny Scott and Vicky Povey deserve a huge well done for their homemade cards and lovely poems. Taylor Aherne and Ann Stamford for all their help throughout the year and Carol Maxwell who has photographed our events all year long.

In addition Karen, Wendy, Julie, Jan and Penny have recently taken a cheque for £150 kindly donated by the Wesley Church, to get the ball rolling for next years conference.

Chester held host to the world Town Crier tournament, last weekend.

We had a visitor from across the pond, Richard Riddell from Washington State, USA.

Richard entertained us with a few of his songs and a rendition of the famous town crier chant

We are a social Club We meet on Tuesday evenings From  6 til 9.

We enjoy crafts, walking, socialising and playing pool etc.

We meet @ Wesley Church, St john street, Chester

Every 3rd Tuesday of the month we meet @ the Watergate Inn, Chester.

Each session costs £2.50.

WE ARE HOLDING A BINGO AFTERNOON, ON 12TH AUGUST @1.30PM TIL 3PM.

THE COST WILL BE £5 FOR 5 GAMES OF BINGO.

THERE WILL ALSO BE A NAME THE DOLL COMPETITION AND A BODY SHOP RAFFLE AT £1 EACH.

ANY MONIES RAISED WILL GO TOWARDS ATTENDING NEXT YEARS ADVOCACY CONFERENCE IN BLACKPOOL.

IT WAS MY BiRTHDAY ON SUNDAY.

THE DAY AFTER I WENT ON A BOAT TRiP TO CELEBRATE.

WE SET SAIL FROM THE CHESHIRE CAT AND TRAVELLED THROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE.

ON THE WAY WE ATE BIRTHDAY CAKE AND HAD A GOSSIP.

IT WAS A LOVELY DAY.

During the past few months, we have been working really hard, to complete our newsle/tter.

Every Tuesday morning, myself (Janet), David and Dan use our session in order to update our newsletter and also our blog.

We keep up to date with the all the latest events,comings and goings and inform everybody what happens here at Canal Street.

Signing Choir

Each Thursday we participate in signing choir.

We aim to produce a number of performances, inluding the hate crime event @  the Mulberry on the 23rd July.

Our repertoire includes "Do a deer"` "Beside the seaside" and "True colours". We hope to see you there on the day.

Our group recently took a trip to Coronation Street.

Whilst we where there we saw plenty of people. 

On the set we took lots of photos of Roys rolls and the Kabin but unfortunately they were not serving in the rovers.

CUSTOMER SERVICE @ DIAL HOUSE

Over the past few months Richard, James, Peter and Andrew have worked hard to achieve their certificates in customer service.

Covering a broad range of topics from Table setting to using the till and handling reception duties. Along the way they also learnt how to make cocktails and how to pour wine in the correct manner.

Everybody really enojyed the course, Peter particularly said he'd love to learn more about working in a coffee shop.

Here is a picture of me using our brand new Ipad.

I like using the IPad to take pictures, play games and to draw pictures using fingerpaint.

We are going to use it today to take pictures of our Barbeque.

SANJURO MARTIAL ARTS

Sanjuro SEN classes have been a welcome addition to the Canal Street diary.

The classes are designed to be engaging, accssible, fun and fully inclusive.

Sessions are held both at Canal Street and the Mulberry Centre.

Valerie has been attending the sessions and said that

" Punching on the punch bags is my favourite part"

FLIPPIN PANCAKE DAY

This Shrove Tuesday, everybody enjoyed freshly made pancakes at the centre.

Vicky and Julie made a flipping good job of tossing the pancakes.

Some had them with Lemon Juice and Sugar whilst others preferred them with

Chocolate Sauce.

SEWING CLUB

We have recently started a sewing club.

Our helper, Rachel, is teaching us a wide range of techniques.

We are sewing a selection of cushions, bags and patterns.

I chose to sew a bag, I will update you all with the results.

Eyeopener @ Chester Market

Every other Friday we hold a market stall at Chester market.

We sell a variety of home-made crafts and produce. Including; cards, jewellery, condiments, fudge, cushions and garden decorations.

All  goods are made and sold by the " eyeopener" group. Which has been established for over 10 years.

Midsummer Watch Parade

On june 4th, We took part in the Jubilee Giants project.

It was a successful and happy day. The sun shone and 70 thousand people filled Chester city centre.

I enjoyed all of the parade, it was a very special day.

I can't wait for next years parade.
